Mission St. Bernardine's Catholic School's (SBCS) main purpose is to provide a high quality Catholic education in a spiritual atmosphere focused on Jesus Christ and steeped in Gospel values. In partnership with parents SBCS endeavors to educate its students in their total growth: spiritual, moral, emotional, intellectual, social, and physical. Specifically, our goals for every student are: to stimulate the mind; to foster a creative curiosity; to develop the body; to encourage sharing of God-given gifts; to inspire personal holiness; and to teach the responsibilities of leadership. SBCS aspires to create a developmentally appropriate learning environment which motivates, challenges, and stimulates intellectual growth and development. However, our faculty recognizes that this intellectual growth and development of our students within an academically diverse population, occurs in many different ways. Therefore, they employ a variety of strategies, techniques, and technology to stimulate interests, identify student's strengths and areas of need, as well as to assess and modify the SBCS programs. SBCS addresses the social needs of students through the promotion of group participation in activities in and out of the classroom. Thus, a foundation is for positive interactions and leadership opportunities with persons of differing age groups, personalities and social and ethnic backgrounds which is necessary for the development and maintenance of wholesome relationships. SBCS addresses students' total development through its physical education classes, recess periods, and sports program. The sports program is maintained through a group effort on the part of the parish, community and school. In addition, good personal hygiene and health habits are encouraged. Also, the school community encourages appropriate dress, good grooming, and respect for authority. |
