Curriculum

The general format of all curricula in the Catholic School are guided by the Office of Education within the Archdiocese of Baltimore. The total development of the student depends upon his/her ability to learn as well as he/she can with interest, comprehension and enjoyment to aid in their focus.

HERE AT SBCS.....................

Lower School students master essential educational and reasoning skills in a comprehensive learning environment. Reading Enrichment is an important componant of our Balanced Reading program. Therefore, Reading Teachers in the lower school offer reading enrichment every quarter to selected students. Continued participation is dependent upon academic achievement and behavior.

Our students in grades K-2 participate in Project READ (Jemicy Outreach Program) which uses a Phonological approach to reading.

For all grade levels, our music and art program present dynamic possibilities in creative development. Physical Education instruction helps children develop coordination and muscle strength. Lower school students begin each day in their homeroom classes with worship time centered in Christian values.

Middle School teachers balance solid academic expectations with an awareness of the very special needs of the young adolescent students. The core curriculum consists of English, Religion, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Computer, Physical Education, Music and Art.

In our multipurpose computer facility, the students incorporate technology into their academic subjects as well as learn to master word processing, graphic illustration, spreadsheets, slideshow presentations, and webpage building.

The Middle School faculty delivers needed support to youngsters through their awkward years. Throughout the day of classes and activities, St. Bernardine teachers are attentive to the special needs of each individual student.
